Wall Color: Sherwin Williams Alabaster White (satin)

Our first project of 2021 is complete and I am so happy with how it turned out. We focused on turning a dull white wall into a statement wall! By adding board and batten, it gave the space dimension and texture that I was looking for.  To create the board and batten, we used 1x3 boards and framed the area with 1x4 boards. The wall is painted in Sherwin Williams Alabaster White in satin. It is one of my favorites. 
Earlier in 2020, I painted the walls Sherwin Williams Storm Cloud from a dull yellow color that the previous owners had painted it. Before the cabinets from Ikea,  I used to have Target cubbies to store all the kids toys. However, after some time, I wanted a storage solution that hid all the toys. The Brimnes IKEA cabinets were the best solution! To create a more built-in look, we went ahead and added a wood top to them with a 1x20 panel board. However measurements may be different for you depending on how flush your cabinets are on the wall. We secured the wood down with screws and decided to keep it a natural wood tone. Given that this is a playroom, I did add a matte polyurethane coat to protect the wood. 

To complete the space, I added in some shelves to display some coastal elements and really tie it all together. We used 1x10 pine boards from a local lumber yard and purchased brackets from Amazon. Typically, these brackets are black but I sprayed painted the brackets white so they would blend in with the wall. I love how the white brackets are paired with the natural tones of the wood. To ensure that the shelves are flush against the walls, we made sure to cut sections out of the shelves to fit properly. It was pretty simple measuring it out and it really made a huge difference. 

When I am decorating a space, I like to use decor items that are transitional from room to room. In the playroom, I used non-traditional playroom items knowing that if I plan to switch out the space, I can use the pieces elsewhere. Can you envision this space as an office? I can!

As the boys get older, we want to ensure this space can grow with them. I purchased this white table from Pottery Barn Kids. The table is perfect for my littles now, but as they get older, the table grows with them. We got the additional legs for the table so it can later be turned into a regular craft table. 

In the playroom, it was also important for us to include a little reading nook for the boys to hang out. This sweet little area is perfect for this. I added the wicker storage  basket with removable lid from Target which works as a perfect little bench for the boys to look out the window - bird watching and able to hide all the toys! It adds so much texture to the space too. 

When choosing the color palette for this space, I wanted to keep it neutral creating a room that was relaxing, yet calming. By mixing in colors of white, beige, gray, and natural elements, it provided such a serene atmosphere that we were looking for.  Overall, I am so happy with how the space turned out and look forward to seeing the space evolve as the boys get older. Later, I will touch base on how I organize the cabinets with all of their toys.
